Senior Researcher and Software Engineer VRVis is a research center that attempts to form a transfer-of-knowledge bridge between universities and the private industry sector in Austria. In this specific case, the private sector is AVL (www.avl.com) and the university is Vienna University of Technology. As a senior researcher, I carry out research and development in the area of scientific visualization. The focus of the research is in the area flow visualization and the software, written in C++, is developed jointly with AVL. All development is carried out directly within the software environment of AVL in order to take advantage of the commercial benefits that result from the research. Thus the novel algorithms I have written can immediately be sold to AVL's customers. AVL's software is designed to visualize the results of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Research Assistant Performed research and software development in the fields of computer graphics, scientific visualization, and human-computer interaction (HCI). The focus of the scientific visualization was in the area of multiresolution (MR) and adaptive resolution (AR) visualization. I implemented an isosurface renderer that supports visualization of both MR and AR data. The software implementation of the isosurface renderer was written in Java 1.2/2.0 and used the VisAD, Java3D, and Mesa/OpenGL graphics libraries. The focus of the HCI research was on the visual problems associated with the use of monocular head mounted displays. We carried out a series of user studies that emphasize perceptual problems related to the use of this type of display. Please see publications list for results of this research. | ||||||||||||||

Computer Applications Instructor/Lecturer Responsible for preparing and teaching a survey computer science course at UNH that provides a balanced theoretical and hands-on overview covering the topics of operating systems, computer architecture, networking, computer graphics and databases. The course also introduced the features of the UNIX, Macintosh, and other operating systems as well as popular business office software including word processing, spreadsheet, and simple database applications. Wilson, and Emily L. C. Shepard received the Best Paper Award at the EuroVis 2009 Conference, June 10 - 12, 2009 in Berlin, Germany for the paper Visualisation of Sensor Data from Animal Movement, published in Computer Graphics Forum (CGF), Vol. 28, No. 3, 2009 pages 815-822. A total of 143 submissions were reviewed in a two-stage process that culminated with 41 papers accepted for an acceptance rate of 29%. Bob is featured in the Top cited authors from 2000 to March 2009 list in the Computer Graphics Forum (CGF) journal. This is according to the Wiley Publisher's Report presented at the Computer Graphics Forum Editorial Board Meeting, EUROGRAPHICS, Munich, Germany, 31 March 2009. Bob is the 18th most cited author out of approximately 850 (top 2.1%). How to Write A Visualization Paper: The Art and Mechanics by Robert S. Laramee was selected as one of the best two education papers at the EUROGRAPHICS 2009 conference in Munich, Germany, 2 April 2009.
